Removing Minor Scratches from Marble

While marble is a beautiful and elegant surface, it can be prone to small scratches and scuffs. Even with proper care and maintenance, it’s possible for your marble surfaces to become scratched and dulled over time. Luckily, you can remove minor scratches and scuffs easily at home without the help of a professional. Check out our guide on removing minor scratches from marble:

What You’ll Need

  • Marble Polish
  • Fine sandpaper or Grade #000 steel wool
  • Soft microfiber cloth
  • Water

Step 1

Clean the surface with warm water and soap to remove any residue and debris that can scratch and scuff your marble surface. The last thing you want is debris scratching up your countertop during the scratch removal process.

Step 2

Carefully sand or buff out surface scratches with fine sandpaper or steel wool. Make sure to only use fine-grit sandpaper and the proper grade wool or you could end up with more scratches than you remove.

Step 3

Rinse the area again with fresh water and wipe dry with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Use the cloth to apply liberal amounts of marble polish and gently wipe down the marble in wide, circular motions until visible scratches and scuffs are removed.

Step 4

Let marble polish dry thoroughly (up to 8 hours) and give a gentle wipe down with soap and water before resuming regular use.
